Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about licensing your company's data to AI companies.
Who pays us?
The AI data company you sign with. A DataPaid data advisor qualifies your company and schedules your call with a qualified buyer from our network. The buyer pays you directly.
Who qualifies?
Written processes and English-language docs. Strongest fit: US companies and nonprofits with 20+ full-time office employees, accounting firms with 10+, law firms with 6+. Smaller companies are reviewed case by case. US first, then the UK, Canada and other Western markets.
Do we keep our data?
Yes. You keep ownership. Data is used only as agreed and deleted under the agreed retention terms.
Is it safe?
Personal info is removed where relevant, access is restricted, and you review samples before anything is used.
Is the payout guaranteed?
No. Every company is reviewed, and pay is set based on the size, quality and uniqueness of your data.
What does it cost to apply?
Nothing. Applying is free. When a deal closes, DataPaid may be paid a fee by the buyer, not by you, and it doesn't reduce your payout.
Is DataPaid a buyer?
No. DataPaid is an independent data licensing partner. We help you understand the market and connect you with AI data buyers in our network.
How much do AI companies pay for business data?
Enterprise data programs publish tiers of $100K+, $500K+ and $1M+, and deals can range from $100K up to $2M depending on dataset size and uniqueness. Smaller deals for shuttered startups have run $10,000–$100,000 according to Fast Company.
Do I give up ownership of my data?
Not under typical licensing terms. Companies retain ownership of their underlying data and license it for an agreed use and retention period.
What size company qualifies?
Strongest fit: 20+ full-time office employees (10+ for accounting firms, 6+ for law firms), with established documentation and English-language operations, prioritizing the US. Smaller teams are reviewed case by case.
Is selling data a one-time payment?
It depends on the agreement. Buyers mention both one-time datasets and ongoing participation across teams, which can pay more over time.
What is AI data licensing?
Granting an AI company permission to use a defined dataset for a defined purpose and time period in exchange for payment, while you keep ownership.
Is licensing better than selling data?
For operating companies, usually yes. You keep ownership, limit how data is used, and can often license it again later.
Can I sell client data I hold?
Usually not without consent. Records you hold on behalf of clients, or data covered by client contracts or privacy laws, typically can't be licensed. Your own process documentation usually can.
Is healthcare data eligible?
Patient health information is regulated and generally can't be licensed this way. Administrative process documentation without patient data may be.
How long does the process take?
Typically 20 to 60 days from discovery to payment received. The steps are simple: submit the form, a data advisor qualifies you and gives you curated advice, the advisor schedules a call with a qualified buyer, you sign with the buyer, and you get paid.
